SENIOR ADVOCACY AND REFORM
Rose Roach, Board Chair for Health Care for All Minnesota and National Coordinator for the Labor Campaign for Single Payer, shared updates on ongoing efforts to reduce healthcare costs and improve services for seniors through reforms to Medicare and Medicaid systems.
Discussion focused on concerns surrounding privatized healthcare programs, including Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care plans. Rose explained that advocates are working toward solutions that would reduce administrative costs, improve access to care, and strengthen traditional Medicare benefits for seniors and vulnerable populations.
Supporters estimate proposed reforms could save the state approximately $1 billion annually in current healthcare costs. National proposals under discussion include adding dental, vision, and hearing coverage to traditional Medicare, along with establishing an out-of-pocket spending cap for seniors.
Additional resources can be found at Physicians for a National Health Program regarding healthcare reform and Medicaid policy analysis.
All Elders continues to collaborate with advocacy organizations working toward lower Medicare and Medicaid costs and improved healthcare services for older adults.
