🏠 HOUSING: MORE AFFORDABLE HOMES, BUT WHAT ABOUT PROTECTIONS?

The new federal 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law in July.

The law includes several housing changes that could help increase the supply of affordable homes and make smaller mortgages more available. However, it also makes it easier for developers and contractors to build by reducing some of the current regulations and requirements.

This law raises an important question: How do we increase the number of affordable homes while still protecting our environment and our communities?

This is an issue we continue to see here in Minnesota and throughout the Twin Cities.

❤️ CAREGIVING AND HEALTHCARE: WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH MEDICAID?

The Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has been withholding or delaying more than $250 million in Medicaid payments to Minnesota, with another $2 billion potentially at risk over the next several months.

Why does this matter? These payments help support the health care providers and programs that Minnesotans rely on, including services for older adults and people who need care at home or in their communities.

The state says that these payment delays do not eliminate its responsibility to reimburse health care providers. However, the state also cannot simply use its general funds to make up the difference.

There were no major Medicaid program cuts during the 2026 legislative session. But if the federal payment delays continue, Minnesota could face difficult decisions and possible program cuts in the next legislative session.
